I couldn't imagine riding a bike to work. I completely understand why people do it, and more power to ya. But walking into work a sweaty mess is not how I would want to start my workday, unless maybe I did construction or landscaping or something. Or if I could take a shower when I arrived and brought a change of clothes.
I feel ya kh, biking in Blacksburg would not be my first choice either. Would be a good way to get in shape though, no doubt. One of my roommates (big fella) biked to class everyday one semester (as opposed to BT), from a couple miles out, and lost a shit load of weight.

When it gets really hot towards the end of June I won't be biking, and I am sure my coworkers will be thankful for it. For now though, the mornings are in the high 50's to low 70's and it really nice to be outdoors. I keep a change of clothes at work that I change into, so it isn't bad at all.

I'm with Vynnie - I work about 75 km (just under 50 miles) away from home so that's not happening. I do, however, jog when I get there and shower before I start my shift. Having to leave 2 hrs early to avoid rush hour (

) does allow time for that.

I used to have to commute an hour and change each way when I was younger. I hated it so much I swore I would live in a crap hole if that was all I could afford in order to be close to work. Crap, with gas prices what they are, I would be hating a 100 mile per day round trip.

well, the one thing you can say about new york is that you have a mass transit system unparalleled the world over. i walk to my train station from my house and walk from the train station to my job. while i have an hour and a half commute over-all, it's really a breeze for how far away i am. my train in the morning is a one-stop-only express, and on the way home it's an express to my station, no stops between. the funny thing is, if i moved closer, my commute would be longer
