Video Game Movies

I couldn't find a topic on this, probably because none of the movies were good enough to warrant a thread.

This weekend one of the Mortal Kombat movies was on TV. It must have been the sequel because there was an abundance of cheesy CGI in it. The dialog wasn't any better. It made me glad that Hollywood was over their video game movie kick from the 90s and early 2000s. In the past, I may have claimed that the original Mortal Kombat was the only video game movie that was watchable.

Then, today I saw that The Rock is starring in "Rampage" which is based on the old video game. The game had no plot other than there were up to three monsters smashing random cities. The Rock was also in the Doom movie. I only saw part of that one because I didn't feel a need to find out how it ended.

Oh yeah? Well I'm going to hijack your hijack and post an article about someone building a real-life Mario Kart race track in Niagara Falls.

Am I going crazy or does every other movie trailer seem to use either Sabotage or Intergalactic?

huh... had no idea there was such a cool go-kart place in Branson, MO. we'll be passing through there on this year's roadtrip. i'll have to pass it by the missus.

yeah, but since everything in the LEGO movies is tongue-in-cheek, this one gets a pass.

Sonic vs. the Evil Ace Ventura? No spank you.

I think they chose Gangsta's Paradise for the same reason the Lego movie used Sabotage, except it didn't work.

Watched Sonic last night.
I laughed way more than I expected to. It wasn’t bad.

as a follow-up, we did hit this track in Branson (and many others, there are like 5 different go-cart places in the town, and you can get a day pass that's good at all of them).

turns out, Branson, MO is very much in line with other, mostly (from what i can tell) southern, towns that are all built around tourism - my earliest experience being Myrtle Beach, SC. since then, we've been to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, TN and Branson, MO as well. surest sign you're in a southern tourist trap is the presence of a "Ripley's Believe It Or Not".

MORTAL KOMBAT! (R-rated reboot)

I watched parts of the original 2 movies recently. The description in the article sounds better than the plot of those two.

I never played the first Borderlands game, but I played the FUCK out of the second one. Unhinged, madcap, cel-shaded chaos fps. Even funner in co-op.

This has a GotG vibe to it, probably because of the music choice.

Also, Prime is putting out a tv series based on Fallout. I played Fallout 3, and started Fallout 4 but didn’t get very far. But the games were pretty fun, and this looks like a decent adaptation. Hopefully.

I have a Fallout game for PS4, can't remember which one right now (its downstairs). I think I also didn't get very far, but it was cool.

I played several version of Fallout going back to when it was a turn based game on PC. The show could be pretty interesting.

Watched Fallout two episodes per day over the last week or so. Fucking fantastic. This is what is possible when showrunners respect the source material.
I love that they kept peppering “movie stars” into roles and they’d only survive one scene. Oh look, Mykelti Williamson as a bounty hunt—whoop. Guess not. Oh neat, Michael Rappaport as Brotherhood of Steel Knight—-annnnd he’s dead. The tiny little attentions to detail, easter eggs if you want, throughout the show were fantastic, but they weren’t done in a wink-wink kind of way. Looking forward to more seasons.
