Re: Osama Bin Laden is dead.
They are saying they got him outside of Islamabad in Pakistan. Not surprising he was near civilization because of his medical problems...well, former medical problems. I'm sure we will only be able to enjoy the fact that he is dead for a few more minutes until the Democrats and Republicans both try to spin it in their favor.

Re: Osama Bin Laden is dead.
So it starts...Obama says the first thing he did when he took office was to tell the CIA that their top priority was to take out Bin Laden. Don't you think that's been the CIA's top priority since about Sept 12, 2001?

Re: Osama Bin Laden is dead.
I love the fact that he was shot dead by US forces, rather than killed by a bombing strike.
That mother fucker knew it was the USA sending him straight to Hell.

Re: Osama Bin Laden is dead.
so when does his trial start... wait... shit.
is anyone else a bit perplexed by the media showing all the "celebrations of bin laden's death"? they look exactly like the fake photos of people celebrating in [insert name of country that has predominantly muslim inhabitants] when the twin towers were destroyed. i don't really feel any joy in hearing that he was killed by US forces. i'd feel better knowing he was rotting in some jail somewhere, paying for his crimes instead of, y'know, not experiencing anything anymore.
i think it would have also been better to 'bring him to justice' as opposed to 'send him to hell' or whatever - to prove to the rest of the world that we are better than those we are after, we don't believe in stooping to their level. i'm obviously in the gross minority in my opinion, seemingly everywhere.

Re: Osama Bin Laden is dead.
I would've preferred justice, too. Some reports are that he was offered a choice and opened fire on the SEALs, but who knows at the moment what happened. Some of it will come out eventually, some will remain classified till Doomsday, and there's a lot of misinformation at the moment.
I don't celebrate the passing of a man; I do celebrate the essential decapitation of Al Qaeda. Bin Laden was like Hitler in one respect: he had a frightening ability to get otherwise normal people to do his will. Al Qaeda is not finished, but, without bin Laden to unite them, they will splinter more quickly. I doubt that there's a "worthy" heir to bin Laden--it's unlikely Al Qaeda would keep such a figure secret, and, in the 21st century, the US government couldn't keep us completely uninformed. I think it's similar to if Hitler had been killed earlier in WWII: Goering or Goebbels or Himmler (I'm not sure of the line of succession here) could've taken over, but it's unlikely they could have so totally dominated the German people.
And, truth is, I've always considered Al Qaeda to be simple thugs, not military geniuses. They didn't launch a single planned attack on the US since 2001 that, once the shock wore off, didn't sound like a joke. (Underwear bombs? A guy caught when he was trying to light the fuse sticking out of his shoe?) I will believe until my dying day, unless someone can show me video evidence otherwise, that the senior leaders of Al Qaeda were sitting around a TV on 9/11, their jaws on the floor, until one of them said, "Holy shit, this actually worked."
Not to say a bunch of violent thugs aren't dangerous, but I doubt they had enough sense as an organization to have a real plan for what happens after bin Laden was captured or killed. I'd be willing to bet money (imaginary money! I'm poor!) that they splinter into several warring factions.

i just wish they'd caught him getting fucked by perez hilton and taped several minutes of it before shooting him in the balls and making him cry like a schoolgirl. not that i have anything personally against being gay, but i bet osama's followers do.

Re: Could have sworn....
i merged it with the one that was already ongoing when you posted yours - did they not invent merging of threads until after your three year tour in the realm of magic started? check out the 'view your posts' link next time something goes missing

The best part is that they quit talking about the damn Royal Wedding on the news.
