But does it strike anyone else as odd that something always comes up whenever the price of oil is supposed to drop?
There are a handful (six?) of oil refineries in the US. They have scheduled annual shutdowns that halt production. Despite increased demand and record profits, the oil companies don't build more refineries.
(I'm not saying I want them to, but it would make sense if they're not trying to artificially hike up the price, which I believe is the case.)
About a week ago, AAA reported that, due to a drop in demand (probably caused by $3/gallon gas), gas prices were likely to drop by as much as $0.50/gallon within the next couple of months. And, BAM! There's an explosion at one of the US refineries yesterday.
Which would seem tragic, except this explosion was large enough to blast open doors on houses miles away, and yet only one person was injured.
Doesn't that seem a bit hard to swallow? You've got a crowded refinery and a blast big enough to create a fucking mushroom cloud that looks like Hiroshima. And only one person was injured?
Did he miss the memo that said, "Don't be in this area tomorrow morning. We have a scheduled massive explosion"?
