The Greatest Rock and Roll Band of All Time

uh, y'know, the sounds that sound good together... sometimes... and sometimes sounds like the disgusting "squish squish" sound Slicker's mom makes whenever she walks

The Greatest Rock and Roll Band of All Time

Post by Ran »

I was listening to some talk show on the radio called Ron and Fez. They were kind of annoying. Anyway, the topic was "Who is the greatest rock and roll band of all time". They took calls and went on for a while. I thought I'd throw a poll up to here on the same topic using the bands that were mentioned. I probably left some off, so I put the "other" category in.

By the way, they called the Beatles a pop band and the original boy band.

I wouldn't consider The Who or AC/DC as even being contenders.

And the Jimi Hendrix Experience isn't particularly a strong choice, given that they only recorded one album as such. Jimi himself, strong contender. One of his several bands, not so much.

I am more of a Who fan than a Stones fan.

You are right about AC-DC. Their stuff sounds pretty much the same.

Hendrix was only around for about 4 years. While I love his stuff, he didn't last long enough to warrant the title.

Led Zeppelin is my choice.

Every band on the list is overrated, IMO.
They are all good and have made great contributions to rock and roll yada yada yada...but they just ain't my thing.

I chose Pink Floyd, but I also love the Beatles and Led Zeppelin. Queen should be a choice too, they're certainly a hell of a lot better than AC/DC.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

I was suprised no one that called into the show mentioned Queen. Someone from Jersey brought up Bruce Springsteen. It almost sounded like a stereo-type set up, but I guess the guy was serious. Another caller mentioned Aerosmith, who I forgot to put into the poll.

You forgot the Dead, but from there I shall choose the Beatles. They changed rock music, not once, but twice

They're not my favorite band per se, but I picked U2 for 2 reasons - the breadth of the music they've made (I honestly believe everyone likes at least one U2 song - even if they won't admit it), and because Bono actually appears to be using his fame to effect positive change. How successful he's been, I'm not sure - but at least he's out there trying.

Oh, and I saw them in concert in Toronto right after Achtung Baby came out.... and it was pretty close to perfect.
