Watch the first three (you could even skip the second), maybe the fourth, and the last one (New Nightmare, not the embarrassing piece of shit Freddy's Dead). They're actually far better than the genre normally allows for.

I'm sure it will be good. It's produced by Michael Bay.

Maybe they can get Dokken back together for the soundtrack:

Actually, I've only seen parts of the Nightmare movies (and the Halloween & Friday the 13th films as well). I was never much of a horror film fan.

And that reminds me..I need to add the original Clash of the Titans DVD to my list of movies to buy.

I consider myself an Elm Street kid having grown up on these movies and considering them among my favorites, even the shitty ones...I should have known better but part of me always thought they wouldn't remake this, or at least wouldn't do one without Englund (at least for a few more decades after we're all dead).

Saddest of all, that trailer actually looks kinda cool??? They clearly ripped off some of the shots from the original, all they needed to do was get Robert back...goddamnit this pisses me off because just SIX YEARS AGO (ok, 7 when this one comes out), they did Freddy vs. Jason.

Maybe the Englund films ran their course over 8 movies, so be it, but to be remade so soon is irritating.

Still, that trailer doesn't look half bad. Jackie doesn't seem as douchey as I would have predicted, either (and for the record, I love Watchmen and Semi-Pro, so nothing personal against him).

It doesn't show a clear shot of Freddy's face, but it seems more skeletal than Englund.

All the more reason to reboot.

wasn't 'new nightmare' a reboot of sorts, as well?

Sorta. The way I heard it, Nightmare was supposed to be a satire of slasher movies, but was too subtle and people didn't get it. So, when the series ended, he did New Nightmare, and it was still too subtle. So he did Scream, and people finally got it because the joke was so watered down by that point.

but 'new nightmare' was awesome!

I didn't say it wasn't awesome, just that the "joke" was still too subtle for the dense skulls of most viewers. I'd say anyone wanting a taste of the series should watch New Nightmare, only it wouldn't make much sense without one having seen the original.

hey, I like Freddy Vs. Jason ! :(

and New Nightmare was awesome, yes. :D

Here's my quick reviews on each film in the series (anarky feel free to comment):

A Nightmare on Elm Street: an absolute classic
Freddy's Revenge: gay propaganda
Dream Warriors: fun flick, the true sequel to 1
The Dream Master: My personal favorite (cheesy, yes, but very awesome)
The Dream Child: cool but a definite step down from 4
Freddy's Dead: too comical but I dig the Alice Cooper appearance and Englund flashbacks
New Nightmare: the second best in the series
Freddy Vs. Jason: guilty pleasure of mine, it's goofy but I thought it was handled well
Elm Street 2010: I will give it a chance but I'm an Englund loyalist. ;)

Y'know, seeing the subtitles, #4 is worth seeing. It's with #5 that it starts going downhill. #2 wasn't bad, but it has no connection really to the others aside from Freddy being in it. I did sorta like the kids getting Nancy's diary and making fun of her entries.

Yeah, also when Freddy jumped into the real world and slashed that dude's face, saying "help yourself, Fucker!". 2 does have some cool scenes but overall I don't think it holds up very well at all. I was jesting about the "gay propaganda" comment but there have been accusations made against it...the Magistrate from Deadwood being stripped in the shower, Jesse's dance on the bed, etc.

3 - I don't like that they killed off Nancy, but at least she went out with a bang, helping the kids. Plus it has "Larry" Fishburne, too!

4 - I don't like that they killed off Kristen, but at least she was played by a different actress. What I DO love about that movie is Alice, cuz Lisa Wilcox is awesome (and still gorgeous) and Rick was cool, too. I loved the "Anything, Anything" scene as a kid, it always pumped me up.

5 - Started off cool (I like the comic book stuff) but it deteriorates by the end.

6 - I was 13 when this came out and it was the first Elm Street I saw in the theater (in 3D!), so I'm partial to it on nostalgic terms. The movie was really hit or miss, I loved Englund and The Coop (as stated) but the Roseanne stuff was stupid, as was the Power Glove and let's not forget the fact that she puts 3D glasses on in the movie which signals the audience to put on their glasses. :bj: I still have my glasses, by the way. ;) Oh, also the idea of bringing him into the real world to kill him for good was fine, except that they already did that in part 1...I guess blowing him up was the "Final" nail in the coffin, as opposed to the general mindfuck which Nancy used to push him away. Huh. I almost forgot about Breckin Meyer being in this one.

7 - Rumor has it that Johnny Depp said that he would have cameo'd in it if asked, but nobody asked him because they assumed he was too big a star to bother...it would have been cool to see him in that funeral scene (or elsewhere). And it's not like he hadn't just done part 6 a few years earlier. Tuesday Night is in the funeral scene, they should have had her standing next to Patricia Arquette. :P

FvJ - I was amazed at the Jay and Silent Bob ripoff, that wasn't cool, but I liked the comment, "That goalie must have been pissed about something."

Damnit, now I'm in the mood to run the train on the whole series, I haven't watched these in forever! I'll have to start up the DVD box set soon, ring in October that way.

The only thing I liked in FvJ was the the Crystal Lake token nude scene the filmakers were obviously having fun with it.

Was a re-make of "V" really neccessary?

Okay, no need to start a new thread on this. What are everyone's thoughts on the new Freddy being a child molester rather than a child killer?

Me, I think it goes against what makes Freddy so great. You can't help but root for Freddy; he's really the star of the movies. He's not Michael Myers or Jason Voorhees; he's not the faceless villain, but the protagonist of the movie. Yeah, you know he's going to die in the end, but you also know he'll be back (even when the title says "Freddy's Dead").

It's true that a child molester is more evil than a child killer, and it's slightly more realistic (inasmuch as a movie about an undead burned guy with a clawed glove killing kids in their dreams can ever be realistic), but it completely undermines Freddy. You can make killing silly. Child molestation is so disgusting and reprehensible that you can't make it a joke. (Funny: "Hey! Look! This kid likes video games, so he's going to pull him into a video game where he kills him!" Not funny: "Hey! Look! This kid likes video games, so he's going to pull him into a video game where he fucks him up the ass!")

Simply put, the audience cannot root for the pedophile. Freddy loses what makes him Freddy and becomes another generic monster.
