Re: star wars
A new Bespin Guard? Cool. I liked the POTJ version, but they could do better.
Target had that Rancor today. I've seen it several times so far. That blue paint on him is practically day-glow. Is it coincidence that the Force Unleashed video game is abbreviated "FU" or are they trying to tell us something?

So far they've avoided "FU" by calling it "TFU." Ah well.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

RE: The Fake Clone Wars midnight sale
Is anyone actually going to bother? I'm sure no one from here will (unless JJL wants those snigtarded "first day!" stickers), but this seems like it could work against SW toys more than for it.
Think about it. Three times, there have been huge sales, with large turnouts. These were all for new movies.
This is for some really shitty toys based on three episodes of a TV show showing on the big screen, two vehicles, and a handful of classic figures. No huge release. Plus, we've all gotten used to the fact that nothing from a midnight release is hard to find. And this "movie" seems to, overall, have a pretty low level of buzz among fans, and those who aren't patrolling (or trolling) SW sites know jackshit about it.
So if stores run a midnight sale, and there's little or even no turnout, what's to keep them from thinking SW is dead and slowly cutting back their orders? Especially in light of the fucking Jerjerrods and Neimoidians STILL on pegs?
Yeah, a certain someone elsewhere would say I'm alarmist if I posted this there. But it is solid business sense, especially when one considers that no one with any ordering power at any of the three major retailers knows anything whatsoever about the toy lines beyond what company salesmen have told them.

Re: star wars
I haven't been to a midnight sale yet, and I'm not starting now. I'm only looking for a few OT figures and I'm sure I'll find them eventually. If not, screw it.

If I end up working late that Friday night into Saturday morning, I might stop at WM and grab Yarna, about it

Re: star wars
People think this Falcon is going to be hard to find. Maybe we should buy them all up and put them on eBay for one meellion dollars?

Re: star wars
Oyes and charge an additional million dollars for shipping.
Was the Rancor supposed to be hard to find? There has been one or two at every Target I've been over the past month. And I still think the figure that comes with it looks like the witch doctor from Scooby-Doo.

I've also seen tons of the Rancor with post money shot glow-in-the-dark man goo all over it.

Re: star wars
The Rancor isn't hard to find; I'm actually more surprised when I go to a Target that had one and it's gone. I expect to see those go to clearance.
And I know most of it will be easy to find later, but I still think it will be fucking fun to get just a shitload of new stuff all in one go rather than getting it all in bits and pieces. At the ROTS release, I went to Target early and talked with the other collectors (there were about 8 or so, and most of them had been to WM the night before). It's just a fun thing to do. Since none of you like Star Wars anymore, of course it's not going to be fun for you.
At any rate, I agree that it won't be as successful as the other ones. I'm not even sure if any stores around me did midnight madness for ROTS aside from a 24-hour WM. I remember getting a flyer for the TPM MM at a TRU back in the day but I didn't go, so I know they did have them (that store is now closed). If I were a manager I would just wait until the morning to open.
I don't give a shit about the stickers since I open everything anyway and any and all stickers will end up in the recycling bin. I'll go to Target when it opens at 8 to get my stuff. There's quite a bit more than just a few figures . . . there's two giant vehicles, two smaller ones, 16 figures (that could end up being 24), at least two new Evolution sets (I'll be getting four as they're rereleasing older ones I missed), and a few exclusives. Then there's all this shit that's been leaking onto the internet (tons of comic packs, vehicles, battle packs, more Evolution sets) and nobody knows when that's coming out but might be out July 26 as well. So, it will not be as huge as the prequel releases, but I'll be spending around $600 or so in one day (which is more than I did the other times as I got it spaced out).anarky wrote:Is anyone actually going to bother? Re: star wars
SepArated at birth, I tell ya.
I stopped at a Walmart today and cruised through the toy aisle. They had 3 pegs of GI Joes, but the only 2 figures there were Hawk w/ Jetpack and Snake-eyes.
They also had the "droid factory" sets but didn't see a price. I wasn't impressed.

Re: star wars
They should space out the Snake Eyes. I'm less likely to get severe burnout with him than I did with Vader*, but they've released an awful lot of him.
*--So far, we've had the first three costumes from the vintage line (including the blue variant of the first figure), the Arctic parka from the mission to investigate the polar research team that went missing, one version with green pants (okay, that one is fucktarded), and one battle-damaged version. There's a forthcoming "radioactive" version from the cartoon, too, as well as one coming with the Hard Master, who I figure will be "in training," since Hard Master died long before there was a Joe team. Factor in that the original line had at least three more Snake Eyes figures that I know about, plus he had a slightly different costume in the later comic issues, and then you can get into the various possibilities with unmasked figures (he's been unscarred with short hair, scarred with short hair, healed with short hair, healed with long hair, healed and bald, and re-scarred with short hair, and that's just since the formation of the team).

Re: star wars
The worst of the Droid Factory figures has to be that protocol droid that comes with Vader. Is there any source material for him or did Hasbro just take Snake-Eyes/Vader/Black outfit Spiderman and mix them with C-3PO? A few years ago, I probably would have bought the Han and Luke sets. And since I wouldn't have completed the build-a-droid, the spare parts would have been given to the Jawas.
WM also had some new Comic packs. There was a funky colored Lando w/ a Blue Stormtrooper, Anakin/Dooku, and a Wookie/Clone.

Re: star wars
K-3PX was in old Marvel comics, apparently.
I have the other two comic packs, but I didn't see the Wookiee/Clone set. Hopefully it won't be hard to find for me as I actually like that style of clone.
