Was Marvels Heroes & Legends that weird black & white thing? I think I saw those when I did my big reorganization & couldn't remember why/when I had purchased it.

Re: Big score........
They were in color. It was two random one shots. One in 1996, the other in 1997. I don’t know if they were old inventory scripts, or if they had leftover art from a bunch of old books or if it had something to do with ‘Heroes Reborn’ or what. Because it was a jam session of a bunch of different artists Ayers, Buscema, Ditko, Kane, Milgrom, Lialoha, etc drawing a “flashback” story from when the original Avengers left and Cap took over.
Bob Harris was EiC at the time, so who knows what the fuck was going thru his head. Throw shit at the wall and see what sticks.
I found the first one several years ago, then did internet research and found there was a second issue and I’ve been looking for it ever since.
EDIT. Yup, found my post from January 2011. So, been keeping my eyes peeled for it for NINE years.

An issue of Azrael, an issue of a FF miniseries, several issues Gen-X, an issue of Guardians of the Galaxy, Guy Gardner #1, the Rebirth of IronMan, an issue of JLA, a couple issues from a JLA/Titans xover, some issues of Legionnaires, an issue of Nightwatch(!), the final two issues of the Prowler miniseries I've been missing for 16 years, an issue of PeterParker, which brings to within 10 of finishing that one off, an issue of WonderWoman, a oneshot from 97 called Heroes and Legends, an X-Force annual, and Speed Demon!, the Amalgam one shot combining The Flash, GhostRider, and Etrigan. Too bizarre to pass on.

Funny. I was buying everything back then so I'll have to check next time I'm home that I have both issues.
The one I was thinking of from around the same time I believe was called "Shadows & Light".

Re: Big score........
The dealer show was on Sunday. Picked up a longbox of 343 books for the usual $110 and another 50 books for $25 at another table.
Here’s what I got.
Batman:Secrets 1-5. A 2006 mini from Sam Keith, whim I’m not a fan of. But now I can cross it off the list.
Bloodshot 8,9,11,12. From the ‘97 series.
BloodshotUSA 3,4. Don’t know if this was a mini or an ongoing.
Bone 3-14, 38-41. Had most of these already, but can’t pass up classic Bone. Still a dozen issues to go.
Bug. A ‘97 oneshot of the Marvel character introduced in Micronauts(but still owned by Marvel). Why did he get his own oneshot? I’ve no idea.
Darkness/TombRaider oneshot.
District X 8-14. Still need 3-7.
Dr. Fate 1-5. The complete 2003 mini.
Fables 3, 10, 47. The slow march of progress continues.
Everafter 1, 8.
Fear Itself:Hulk vs Dracula 1. Finished the mini. And for FI I’m only missing the Deadpool mini and the Black Widow oneshot. Doubt I’ll ever find either one(or 4 since DP was 3 issues)
Grendel 24, 31. From the original Comico series. Three issues left.
Image Two-In-One 1. A oneshot from Erik Larsen that I thought was a spoof of Marvel’s old series. But it was also a 24-hour challenge from Scott McCloud. Which is a kinda cool story.
Legends of the DCU 26. Finally finished this series.
Legion of Night 1. First of a two part Marvel prestige mini from Steve Gerber and Whilce Portacio that I had no idea existed. Now I have to find issue 2.
Legion of Super Heroes 305, 317, 318, 3r3-347, 350.
Legion of Super Heroes 95-97, 100, 101, 103, 109, 111, 112. Only 10 issues left from the ‘87 relaunch...
Legionnaires 54, 59, 60. ...And only 3 issues left from the companion series.
Lucifer. A sizable chuck of the ‘00 Sandman spinoff that inspired the TV series. Of the 75 issue run, I got 49 issues. And some doubles; not on purpose.
Magnus Robot Fighter 13, 17, 18. From the ‘97 series.
Manga Spider-Man 1, 2.
Some Marvel Age Spidey’s.
Masters of the Universe 5, 6.
Mutopia 1-5. The complete mini.
A variant cover of New Mutants 3.
Untold Tales of the New Universe:Nightmask oneshot.
8 more issues of NextWave because I can’t help myself. I probably have the complete series five times over at this point.
Some issues of Ninjak from various series.
Outlaw Love. Uhmmm. A weird “romance” oneshot from Marvel with Bullseye, The Answer, and Ruby Thursday? What? From 2006.
Punx 2, 3.
Powers 37. From the first Image series. Slowly filling in Bendis’ run.
A Pizza Hut Marvel giveaway called ‘Real Heroes’
Like 40 issues of Red Sonja from Dynamite.
About 25 issues of Savage Dragon.
A couple Secret Files &Origins issues I might’ve already had.
An issue of Shadowman.
A couple issue of Frank Cho’s Shanna the She-Devil mini that I may or may not have. But Frank Cho, right? Better safe than sorry.
Spawn Dark Ages 3-6, 8-10
Some Spider-Girl issues.
Various Spider-Man issues. Finished the Reign mini.
Some old Spirit issues from Kitchen Sink.
Steed and Peel 0.
A few various Star Wars issues.
About 24 Issues of Tomb Raider from various ongoings and minis.
A couple Transformers issues.
A couple Trinity Angels.
Ultimate Spider-Man 7 and 13, and Ultimate Miles 11. Which brings the grand total of ALL the Ultimate books I’m missing to 20.
A dozen issues of Vampirella
Vampires. A Marvel Handbook oneshot featuring undead characters.
Wolverine 66-72, and the Giant Oneshot finale. HOLY FUCKBALLS. First box I went into, I found the entire Old Man Logan saga I’d been missing for 10 years. Everything else on this trip was just icing after I found these in the first two minutes. I’m 8 books away from a full Wolverine run. This is the highlight of the day.
X-23:Target X 1-6. This is a close second. Laura’s second HTF mini. Complete.
And finally, about 10 various Nu52/Rebirth issues.
That Wolverine run though....so happy.

Grendel Tales:Devil’s Choices 1.
Hawkman 11, 12, 16, 17. 11 more issues to go from the ‘93 series.
Jack Kirby’s Fourth World 1-11. John Byrne’s ‘97 New Gods series. Still need 12-20.

Klaus and the Crying Snowman. One of the follow up oneshots to Morrison’s reimagining of Santa’s origin.
Lockjaw 1.
Marvel Knights 4 variant cover.

Venom 8 variant cover of a J Scott Campbell X-Men Gold team shot.
Wolverine:The Long Night 2.

The ‘99 Annual (guest starring that piece of shit Deadpool making it more expensive than its worth)
Wolverine MAX 6.
Wolverine First Class 15.
Marvel Universe vs Wolverine 4.
And a Canadian only only oneshot/freebie(?) called “Son of Canada” so if you guys ever see one, hook me up.
That’s it. 8 issues.

Congrats on those Old Man Logan issues. In all my infinite wisdom I stopped getting Wolverine v2 shortly before those came out - and of course I still don't have them. Fuck sakes.

Re: Big score........
Comic show today. It’s called Quad Con, comes in to town twice a year. More toy dealers, old video games, bootleg anime, and artists signing stuff, etc than the normal show I go to.
First table I got the homage cover of Spawn 300 for cover price.
Second table I found 6 books for $5.
Fables 145. I’m missing 26 issues and the final issue/TPB.
LoSH 121. Nine more issues and an annual to go from the 1987 series.
And 4 Star Wars books.
Third table I got the Artgerm Thor variant for $5.
Fourth table is where I made most of my haul. 45 books at $1 each. And he had Spawn 301 homage cover for $7 but he gave it to me at cover.
I got
Rocket Racoon 10. Finished the ‘14 series.
Ultimate Spider-Man 6, 8. Only ten issues left from the first series and 18 issues before I have a complete Ultimate run.
Star Wars 4, 6, 11-13, 15, 17, 19, 20. From the second DH ongoing right before they lost the license. Only need 1 and 5 now.
A bunch of other Star Wars books from various minis.
Ame-Comi Girls 4.
Batman Inc 0. Finished the series.
Detective 12. Finished the Nu52 run.
Batman/TMNT 3-6. Just need issue 2.
Lobo 1. Finished the Nu52 run.
New Suicide Squad 6, 8, 10, 12, 19, 21, 22 and the Annual. Just need 1-4 of the Nu52 run.
Fifth table. Got the Artgerm variant of Mary Jane 1.
Sixth table I got Astro City 1/2 and a couple Star Wars books.
Another guy had a run of old New Universe books that were in pretty good condition, but wanted a buck apiece and wouldn’t go down to 50 cents each so I skipped that.
Didn’t spend as much as I planned, but that’s a good thing.
Next show is at the end of the year I think.

Re: Big score........
They had a “pop-up” holiday dealer show across the river today. It was very impromptu. Tiny room in an airport hotel with only three(?) dealers and their wares.
First table I got 5 books out of his $1 boxes.
District X 3-6. Just need issue 7 for a full run. And an issue of Grendel.
Second table $1 boxes I got
DCUniverse Specials for Superman and JLA. I already had both of these oneshots from 2008, but I forgot I had them.
DC Essentials: New Frontier 1. A $1 reprint of the classic Darwyn Cooke series.
Justice League Odyssey 1.
Nightmäster:Monsters of Rock oneshot. From 2011 featuring one of DC’s c-list magic heroes.
Northlanders 41. Jaesus, it’s hard finding the tail end of this 50 issue series. Still need 12 more issues.
Raven:Daughter of Darkness 8.
Star Wars:Bounty Hunters: Kenix Kil oneshot.
Star Wars: The Jabba Tape oneshot.
Chewbacca 5. Still need issue 3.
Superman Annual 1. From the Nu52. Just need issue 49 for a full run.
Adventures of the Super-Sons 1, 2. Jonathan Kent and Damian Wayne are the latest “World’s Finest” team-up.
Maximum Security; Thor vs Ego oneshot that tied in with a 2000 Marvel event.
Third table I got
DC Comics Presents 80, 83. Trying to track down this 100 issue series from the early 80’s where the books aren’t in crap condition is taking forever.
Legenderry 1, 6. Finished Dynamite’s steampunk-esque crossover event of all its licensed characters. Still need most of the tie-in minis though. Not a priority.
Prime 24, 25. Prime 1-8, 12. 3 issue to go from his first series, and now only six left to find from his second.
Terrifics 1, 3. DC’s goofy new super team.
At this point, I had only spent $28, so I went back to the 2nd table and looked thru his “bundles”. He was selling collected story arcs, or full minis, or sometimes full runs of series all taped together. They were a little bit more than what I usually pay, but I got some stuff and then haggled the guy down from what was marked $60 to $45 for everything. I got
Batman:Bane of the Demon 1-4 ($5) i had one of these issues, but it was easier to just get the other 3 in one go and have a double.
Star Wars:Republic 46-48 ($5) I think these are the first three issue from where the original DH SW ongoing split into two separate books and got renamed. 16 more issues to go.
Ultimate Spider-Man 33-38 ($15). The Venom arc. I only needed 4 of the 6 issues, but now I’m only missing 1-6, and 15 from the first USM run and only 14 more Ultimate books for a complete run of the entire universe. Not that I’m ever gonna find 1-6 for cheap, but I already have the TPB for those.
Legend of Wonder Woman 1-9 ($15). I had a couple of the issues, but it was easier to just get the complete series.
And finally, he had Legends of the Dark Knight 120 for $20. I didn’t know why I could never find the one final issue I was missing for a complete LOTDK run; it’s because it’s the first appearance of Cassandra Cain as the new Batgirl. Cassandra had been appearing already during the No Man’s Land mega event. And the costume had already shown up because Huntress was wearing it briefly as the new “Batwoman”. But I guess putting the two together makes the issue more ‘valuable’ or whatever. Stupid. But now I have a full run. And, the cover price of that last batch of 23 books was $60+ so I can justify that I didn’t spend $20 on single book.
Next dealer show is the weekend after Christmas.

Re: Big score........
Had no trouble filling up a full long box at this weekend’s dealer show thanks to his recent acquisition of a recent store closing somewhere (thanks Lange’s!) got 304 books for the usual $110.
Assassin’s Creed:Locus 4.
Batman: Ultimate Evil 1,2. For some reason, I never think I have this 2 issue Prestige by Andrew Vaachs, but I do. Now I have more than one.
Batman Death of the Maidens 5. Just need issue 2 now.
Batman/Shadow 1,3. I think I have some other issues of this, but I have no way of telling since the website I’ve been cataloging all my shit on for the last 13 years FUCKING CLOSED DOWN.
OnStar and Batman. Some sort of freebie from OnStar. They couldn’t even give Batman top billing. Shameful.
Blackbolt 6. Still need 2-5, and 11.
Brave and the Bold. 16 issues of the old Batman team up book between 167 and 199. The first of several decent sized runs of old early 80’s DC books I found today.
Conan vs Rune oneshot.
DC Presents 9, 11-25, 28-33, 39. Another DC run. Would’ve preferred direct market versions, but newsstand copies with UPCs are okay.
DC Presents:Shazam. A giant sized oneshot from the early 2000s
DCU Online 1. Better copy of an issue I already had. Still need issues 13 and 0.
Fables 42, 44, 93, 94, 96-98, 111, 123, 124, 129, 132-134, 136, 140, and 148. Super stoked to finish 90% of my Fables run in one go. Only ten issues to go, and one of those is the final “issue” which was actually the final TPB also. The other issues are mostly the first 10, and issues 100 and 141. Now that I basically have the entire run, I’m super excited to finally read this.
Fables:Last Castle. Some sort of oneshot. I’d look it up, but the website I’d go to do research on FUCKING CLOSED DOWN.
Jack of Fables 50. The last issue of the series, and also the last issue I needed for a full run.
Cinderella 1-6. A Fables spinoff.
Cinderella: Fables are 4ever 1,3. Still need 4 and 6.
Fantastic Four 179, 180, 182, 212.
Green Lantern. 35 issues of the original series from 136 to 223, including the entire run from when it was renamed Green Lantern Corps after issue 200. I have some other issues, but I don’t have an accurate list because the website I was using FUCKING CLOSED DOWN.
Jupiter’s Circle 1.
Justice League of America. 22 issues from between 188 and 219. Only 15 issues from having a full run from 176 onwards.
Ka-Zar 3, 11, 13-16, 18, 19. Almost half of his 1974 series.
Legion 5. From the sorta X-Man’s most recent mini. Still missing a couple issues.
Legion of Super-Heroes. 14 issues from between 259-280.
Legion Science Police 4. Finished the mini.
Marvel Team-Up 97, 101, 113, 119, 120, 132, 134, 136, 139. From Spidey’s old team up series.
Planetary/JLA oneshot.
Power Pack/Avengers 2. Only 10 more issues from seven or more different PP minis before I have a “full run”.
Quantum and Woody 9 and 11. Finished the new(ish) relaunch from a couple years ago.
Rocketeer 1. An old issue from Pacific from the 80s. It might be the first Rocketeer issue ever and I could’ve told you if the website I use hadn’t FUCKING CLOSED DOWN.
Rocketeer Adventures2 2-4. A more recent mini from IDW. Still need issue 1.
Rocket and Groot 8.
Runaways 11.
Secret Files and Origins:New Gods’98.
Shadow/Batman. Issue 3. But three different covers of issue 3.
Spectacular Spider-Man Annuals 2 and 5.
Spider-Man Universe 2.
Spidey 4.
Ben Reilly:Scarlet Spider 1. Finished the series.
Spider-Man 1602 1-5. The entire mini, but the first issue has a thumbprint smudge/smear on the upc box. Not sure if I care enough to look for a replacement.
Star Trek/Green Lantern 2, 3.
A handful of Star Wars books, including Kanan 5, 6. Just need issue 11 to finish that series.
Supergirl 64. Finished the series that ended in 2011 before the Nu52 reboot.
Thor 317-320, 323, 324, 326, 328, 330. Just 9 issues from having a full Thor run from 300 to the present.
Thor:Tales of Asgard 4, 6. From the ‘09 reprint mini. Just need issue 3.
Tomb Raider 8, 10, 13-15, 31.
What If? 20. From the first series.
Within our Reach oneshot. Not sure what this is. Don’t think it was Marvel even though Spidey is one the cover with Santa. I could look it up, but FUCKING CLOSED DOWN.
Wolverine 148. Better copy of an issue I already had. Just need 154 and 155 and Annual ‘99 for a complete run of his first ongoing.
World’s Finest. Seven random issues of the old Super/Bat team up series.
X-Men Annuals 4 and 5.
Uncanny X-Force 11. Finally finished Remender’s ‘critically acclaimed’ run. I’m skeptical of anything that has Remender and acclaimed in the same sentence, but either way; full run.
And almost 60 various Nu52 and Rebirth books. I finished runs on The Movement, Static Shock, and Teen Titans. And I’m only 1 or 2 issues away from finishing Batman; The Dark Knight, Batman & Robin, Grayson, Justice League Dark, Supergirl, and Swamp Thing.
The big win this time was definitely that Fables score. After dinking and dunking those issues for so long, to find almost all the holes in my collection was delightful. Gonna pick up the final trade/issue next week and maybe even pay full cover price on 100 and 141.
The next dealer show isn’t posted on his website yet, but I’m gonna guess March-ish.

Re: Big score........
I’ll save that link, thanks. I also look thru the grand comic book database at comics.org
I just enjoy bitching about CBDB closing. It was set up very well and easy to navigate everything from series to characters to creators.
These other websites aren’t as thorough and it’ll take time to get used to the navigation and limitations of them.
Incidentally, the Rocketeer book was called “Pacific Presents”. ‘‘Twas a four issue series from 1982, the Rocketeer’s third appearance ever, and his first cover appearance. His first two appearances were as a back up feature in Starslayer 2 and 3. Pacific publishing eventually became First Comics before going under.
Now I have another mystery to solve. As I was testing out the Realm, I was looking at Fables and noticed one issue of Fables 6 is significantly higher priced than the other. I’m not sure which one I have because the expensive one’s cover looked familiar and the main cover did not. To be fair the second cover is also the art for the first TPB I believe, and possibly one of those DC Essentials’ What’s Next reprint books. So maybe that’s why I’ve seen it before.
CBDB had a “location” box in its spreadsheet so you could remember where in your collection a certain issue was. That info did not get saved along with the rest when you uploaded your data. Ironically, the best method I have now is to do a search HERE because I’m such a nerd listing all my finds and work backwards thru my handwritten notes. So a sincere THANK YOU VYN for keeping this place running for almost two decades. It’s like a digital diary of my (and our) lives.

Re: Big score........
Tiny score. LCS in town I hardly ever go to because they are primarily sportscard guys. Was looking for Fables 100 now that I’m close to finishing the series(I found issue 141 and the final TPB issue 150 at a different shop last week, but I digress) and found some stuff in their $1 box.
Darkness 81, 82, 109-111, 113 and a oneshot. 17 issues and 17 more oneshots/minis away from having a full Darkness run. Unless they brought him back after they killed him in Witchblade, in which case I need the newest stuff also.
Poe Dameron 3-19, Annual 1. Still need 20-33 and the 2nd Annual, but almost half the series in one lump ain’t bad.
And the latest Red Hood issue, the variant cover.

Re: Big score........
Glad it paid off. 2hrs for a shop closing sale was a risky enterprise at that would have been picked over pretty quick by the local vultures.
