Re: firefly
Finished it last night (aside from the movie). Despite a fairly weak last episode (since, obviously, the show probably wasn't intended to be ending when it was made, and it doesn't work well as a finale), it's superb.
Minor spoiler, but I didn't even consciously notice until they were in the carnival with the "alien" cow fetus that this might be the first sci-fi series I've seen where there are no aliens at all.

Re: firefly
"Objects in Space" is only weak as a series finale. As a single episode, it is awesome. Jubal Early is one scary motherfucker.
BTW, there are 3 Firefly/Serenity comic collections out there.
"Those Left Behind" - A bridge story that takes place between the Firefly and Serenity.
"Better Days and Other Stories" - Better Days takes place sometime during the series. The Other Stories part is 3 collected short tales, one of which (Float Out) has a BIG post-Serenity revelation.
"A Shepherd's Tale" - Book's backstory, which is disappointing from what I understand (I haven't read it yet).
Then there's last year's Free Comic Book Day issue.

Agreed. Wasn't sure if that came across right; it's just not a good ending.Diabolical wrote:"Objects in Space" is only weak as a series finale. As a single episode, it is awesome. Jubal Early is one scary motherfucker.
That sucks. They hinted enough about the man that I'd be interested in that particularly."A Shepherd's Tale" - Book's backstory, which is disappointing from what I understand (I haven't read it yet).
Crap. Wonder if there'll be more so it gets collected? Then there's last year's Free Comic Book Day issue.

There was supposed to be more Firefly comics, but they don't show up too often.anarky wrote:Crap. Wonder if there'll be more so it gets collected? Then there's last year's Free Comic Book Day issue.
BTW, The flipside of the FCBD Serenity issue? A Han Solo story.
I'm hoping Whedon is putting the kibosh on anything post-Serenity so he can tell those stories someday (kinda like the old, Lucas command of no prequel-era stories before he did them).
Via Wiki:
Despite requests from fans, Joss Whedon has stated that Serenity is unlikely to be released as a regular publication series. He believes that the pacing and story arc structure he created for Firefly would work poorly as a regular series, and unlike the monthly-issued Buffy Season 8, Serenity does not have the wealth of background material generated by seven seasons of television to draw from. However, Dark Horse senior editor Scott Allie wants to produce new miniseries on a more regular basis, reducing the three-year wait between Those Left Behind and Better Days.

Comics? I don't read many comics, but I might get those. Serenity, Vol. 1: Those Left Behind is only $8, and that's including shipping.

Re: firefly
Those Left Behind does a nice job of filling in some blanks between the series and flick, almost like the lost 15th episode.
Stuff like, like what happened to...um...certain people and why it happened. One big dangling plot thread is also resolved.

Re: firefly
Those Left Behind was a quick read. It felt like a script for an episode (which I understand it was) with bits from a couple other uncompleted eps tossed in (the Inara and Book subplots both felt like they would've been stretched out for weeks, and probably ended at different times).

Depending on what time everyone else goes to bed tonight, probably more like another ten hours.

Spoiler alert!
Even in the movie, you still don't see any fireflies.
