There must be a motherfucking lot of shit going to take place in the last few chapters of book 4 and all of book 5 - another friend of mine just told me that by the end of book 5 it won't look anything like it looks now, which seems to be the consistent theme here.

That's true. They introduce a bunch of characters who become major players. A few of the REALLY major characters meet up. And one of the MAJOR MAJOR characters gets killed.

Okay done book IV, and that's all I have available. Desperately hoping that my father's day gift is Dance with Dragons - that's all I asked for & I raced to get IV done tonight so I'd be able to start it asap.

OYES, 3 posts in a row. Got book 5 for Father's Day - in paper form which is a nice change - and I'm just getting started. Was not looking forward to any down time - not that I've been reading feverishly but I sure want it available when I feel like reading.

Now I feel better taking so long to read 'em.
Just started book 3, BTW.

160 pages to go & nobody MAJOR MAJOR has died yet. Oh, unless you meant Wyman Manderly whom I'm sure you didn't (and I'm surehe's not dead anyhow).

Oh, and I had to google search Rickon Stark to find out exactly where they figured he went - we haven't heard from that little bugger in quite some time. I'm assuming Osha was determined to be of Skaagine (?) decent?

The MMMMMAJOR death happens in the second to last chapter. And the final chapter has a fairly cool "oh shit!" moment as well.

I've been wondering where they got off to, as well. Especially with Shaggydog loping along with them. An 8 ft wolf has GOT to be conspicuous, yeah?

Yeah google advised (through this reasonably accurate "wiki of ice & fire" I've found) that they were tailed toSkaagos.

By Jesus, I did NOT expect that. Well, to be honest I did expect the one death that you read about, but not the other one. Almost as much shock as the RW.

I have the last chapter and the epilogue to read, but I'm done for tonight.

I don't think Stannis is dead. I think that fucker was lying just to fuck with people. GRRM has offed enough people in the books that you feel no one is safe. But more and more deaths have become red herrings, like Davos for example, that you can't count somebody merely telling that Stannis is dead as definitive.
I have no doubt that Jon's death is impermanent. He'll either be revealed as Azor Ahai reborn, or an Other like that guy running around with Bran, Jojen, and Meera. Or both. But I can totally see Martin leaving him "dead" for an entire book, just to sell readers he's really dead.
But it's still fun to tell people because it ain't a lie.

I agree 100 percent. No way we've seen the last of that character & I also think the ruse theory is possible although I'm going to suggest the reborn Azhor Azhai is Dany.

One point of interest here that never really came to any more light: During a brief description of the "Glamor" magic, it was stated that a lot could be done with (something) from the person you were trying to emulate & the example of a bag of fingerbones was given. Do you think at any point throughout this that Davos wasn't really Davos?

Perhaps. But I dont know why anybody would think he was worth the ruse. I will say that Davos and Ser Selmy are almost the only two characters left that aren't bastard assholes.

Okay. Now you've read all five books. Are you ready to have your mind blown?

Do you want to know who Jon Snow's mother is? I'm rereading the books a second time, and it smacked me in the forehead. My jaw dropped when I realized.

I'll leave and extra space here so if you don't want to know, you can avoid it.

Jon Snow's parents are Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen.
That was the promise Lyanna made Ned keep on her deathbed(which is also Jon's birthbed).

If you want to hear my full theory, go back to page one of this Topic. About halfway down, I explain it all, and it's totally non-Purple Spoiler tagged. Right out there for everyone to read.
 :D
