Don't you think he would have hinted at some sort of recognition from her? I don't recall anything like that, even when they parted and his appearance changed or whatever the fuck happened there.

Re: A Song Of Ice And Fire
That's just it. GRRM is very subtle about it. First off, we never find out what happens to Syrio. When Tyrion arrives in Kings Landing, he's discussing that both Stark's daughters are captives, and the Queen says Arya got away because of the Dance Instructor, she doesn't say whether he was killed or put in the dungeons. And when Arya first meets Jaquen, and he's with Biter and the other guy (Roog?) She mentions the cadence of his voice reminds her of Syrio. And then, when she saves them during the fire. He calls her Boy. But it's a separate sentence. It's not "Come here, boy."
It's "Come here. Boy." Drawing attention to the fact he's calling her Boy. I dunno. You notice these things on a second reading.
And there's other stuff that happens in later books that reinforces my theory, but you ain't read them yet.
And i assume you're(JJ) getting close to finishing SoS. Be forewarned, Feast For Crows is the driest of the five books. When you get to it, you'll feel the pace of the series slow down. Just a heads up.
And I assume YOU haven't started. You know who you are.

Re: A Song Of Ice And Fire
I have 9 percent of all 4 books left before the 3rd book is over. I'm assuming that's in the neighborhood of 1/3 of the physical copy or thereabouts. I've only been picking away at it since the incident, but there has already been a modicum of relief and (due to a stupid spoiler I found someplace else) I believe there may be more to come.

Pretty good tilt between The Mountain & The Red Viper of Dorne, just as landmark for where I'm at. Turns out that whore, Shea, wasn't much more than a cunt. Pity.

Re: A Song Of Ice And Fire
It has slowed down a bit EP, but book 4 seems to be very short comparatively, at least based on my e-book's assessment of how much more story I have to read before I'm back into the appendixes & whatnot at the end. It feels like I've just started it, but I only have 9 percent of the entire 4 books to go before that point. I don't mind the pace of the story, I've enjoyed reading from Jaime & Brienne's perspectives to be honest.

Re: A Song Of Ice And Fire
Yeah, it's just that, since he basically broke book 4 in two and it became 4 and 5, book 4 centers on King's Landing and the Iron Islands and you don't meet up with John Snow, Dany, or Tyrion AT ALL the entire book. Then in Book 5, you go back and read what was happening simultaneously.
I mean, god bless the Iron Islands and all, but I think we can all agree fuck whatever happens to them. None of them are gonna be Last Man Standing, if you get my meaning.
--------
Also, interesting fun fact about Book 4. After the first three books, GRRM had intended there to be a five year jump forward in time. Which is why all the kids are rather young to begin with. But after he got to that point in the writing, he realized that flashing back throughout the story to flesh out those missing five years would be more hassle than was warranted from a storytelling standpoint. And he has said, had he known that, he would have made the kids a little bit older to begin with.

Re: A Song Of Ice And Fire
Bah I've pretty much given up. Chux won't like them anyhow because of the uses of some god damned plot devices or themes or some other shit that only writers care to give a fuck about. Fucking Chux - the only thing smarter than him is Otters - hence his overt dislike of their species. He feels threatened & gets all defensive around them.
Oh, and by the way Chuxy, I've reconnected with an old Otter friend from grade school. He likes Game of Thrones and tells me you're not smart enough to appreciate it. He gochu good, Bich.

Re: A Song Of Ice And Fire
Limping to the end of book IV - not that it's not interesting, I just find it slower going & haven't been as hooked on it for the last few pages. Interesting as fuck though. My last chapter was Arya going blind after having some milk whilst serving the Kindly Man in Braavos. Next chapter is Cersei which I'm off to read now.

I don't know what it was about Book 4. The others I blew through in two to four days each. Feast for Crows took me like two weeks.
I'm on my second readthru of Clash of Kings. Holy shit! When Dany goes into the House of the Undying and she's looking in all the doors on the left, all of the visions are quite obvious in retrospect.
Many of Bran's dreams are much clearer in retrospect as well.
