Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
It's sad that they cling to the crap. A handful of their characters have more potential than almost anyone else in comics. I'd identify those as Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Superman, Flash, Aquaman, the Green Lanterns (all the human ones and a few of the aliens), Martian Manhunter, Oracle, Green Arrow, and Black Canary. Yes, I left Wonder Woman out for a reason. They can't accept she hasn't worked well since 1947.

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
Just be sure you all check out the new Hawk & Dove title! Issue #1 will be on the stands next month, and #2 will be available in January (if nothing more fun comes up between now and then)!!
Should I look down and say it?

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
January? You're being optimistic, eh, Rob?
Here's something that's bugging the shit out of me. At CBR, there's a page from the upcoming Action Comics. It shows Superman hanging on the bottom of a dirigible (probably because he doesn't have his full powers yet and can't fly), jumping onto a roof, and grabbing some ill-fitting clothes from a clothesline.
Let me re-state that: Superman stole clothes. Superman, who clings so rigidly to his moral values that he wouldn't steal a crust of bread to save himself (though he might do so if it would save someone else).
Anything else about Superman is disposable, if you want to get down to it. Even the marriage; as unfortunate as it is to see the character regress, he's still Superman. But lose that aspect of Superman, the unbending virtue encased in near-omnipotent power, and you no longer have Superman. You have Apollo, or Ultraman, or Supreme, or Prime, or Captain Amazing, or any of the other ten billion Superman knockoffs and deconstructions.

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
It doesn't matter to me because I dropped DC.
I've been getting between 16 and 20 books every week, sometimes as high as 24. Looking at the Diamond solicits for this week and next week, my list is 6 books this week, and 9 next week. I'll probably try some new books out (non DC books) and pick up some extra stuff of course, but DC did me a favor fiscally speaking.

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
We should make guesses as to how many of these new titles won't make it past 12-24 issues (or one to two years, whichever comes first). Or we could just guess which one(s) will get cancelled first.
Some are pretty obviously not going to get cancelled, like the big names, and some pretty obviously will, and its just a matter of when.
Nobody is going to want to readAfrican Batman Batwing or some of "The Dark" titles (Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE or Resurrection Man, etc.) or some of "The Edge" titles (OMAC, Blackhawks, or Men of War, etc.). But I may be off on a few of these as minor DC characters aren't my thing.
Its just a matter of guessing who gets the ax first.
The winner gets bragging rights.
For me, it's be a toss up between Batwing and Frankenstein, based on the stupidity of the ideas alone.

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
I'm going to go with Batwing or Mr. Terrific. Either of which (or both) will supposedly prove that people don't want diversity in their comics, never minding that the characters suck regardless of skin color.
Other early cancellations include I Vampire, Grifter, Voodoo, and Frankenstein. Justice League Dark won't last too terribly long, and Hawk & Dove will be entirely based on how soon they replace Liefeld to get someone who can draw and gives a shit about deadlines.
Frankenstein really seems like an attempt to bite off Hellboy and/or Atomic Robo to me, though it looks like they're not going to be offbeat at all with it. The Wildstorm books based on the WildCATs characters will never get the audience Jim Lee thinks they deserve; the people who want them are already reading about them monthly in X-Men.
Truth is, Wonder Woman should be one of the first to go. If DC really wants to get revolutionary, cut the umbilical and make that loser stand on her own for once.

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
Maybe someone should start one of those "Facebook questions" that ask which will be canceled first, listing all (or leaving out the obvious ones like Batman and Superman). I don't screw with those things at all since there's zero privacy controls on them.

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
Does a series reverting to its original numbering count as a 'cancellation'? in this contest?
Its a tough call, because series with inferior talent working on them, but with a bigger draw (I'm looking at you, Flash written by Francis Manupal) will survive longer than they should have, while weaker titles with stronger talent will get axed sooner. Or a title with the Co-publisher writing it which should get axed after issue Zero will somehow make it to year two. *cough*OMAC*cough*

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
I would almost guess they'd "undo" the relaunch around the time they cancelled any of these new books. If it tanks - which all 4 of us who post here about comics are so sure it will (LOL by the way - we're a sarcastic fucking sample, aren't we???) - what is the backup plan? Revert or stick with it & cancel/add books?

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
Since this whole thing is born of the 'Flashpoint' retcon, they have a way out at some point. Some Hero can figure out times been changed and they can revert back to whatever or re-re-re-retcon everything yet again. DC continuity is a dry erase board at this point.jjreason wrote:I would almost guess they'd "undo" the relaunch around the time they cancelled any of these new books. As for being sarcastic, I believe there is a way DC could have done this whole 52 thing from inception to announcement to release that would have totally got me excited. But frankly, the way they did it just reeks of mismanagement and half-assery. If it looks like a trainwreck and sounds like a trainwreck...it aint a pleasure cruise.

I believe Justice League hit the shops today, but I didn't go. Not one post to tell me how shitty it was from any of you fuckers? You're all fired.

I would have had to buy it in order to tell you how much it sucked.

Re: Questions about DC's relaunch
I've read it's part one of a heavily-decompressed origin story, and only features Batman and Green Lantern.
