SEAN Connery is done with Hollywood!
The Scottish actor — who has starred in films such as The Man Who Would Be King, Marnie, A Bridge Too Far, Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade, Time Bandits and seven Bond films between 1962 and 1983 — celebrates his 80th birthday today, August 25, and insists unlikely we will ever see him grace the silver screen again.
“I don’t think I’ll ever act again. I have so many wonderful memories but those days are over,” he told Britain’s Daily Record newspaper.
“I’ve done a voiceover for an 85-minute animated film called Sir Billi, which I enjoyed and it will be exciting to see that project finished. Shirley Bassey sings the theme and Ruby Wax was also involved.”
Sean the revealed which of his films he enjoyed the most.
“Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade,” he said.
“I was working with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. The teamwork was special. It was a great adventure and Harrison Ford and Denholm Elliot were wonderful actors. I had so much fun.”
His worst film? Meteor, an early 1970s sci-fi thriller about an asteroid on a collision course with Earth which co-starred Natalie Wood.
“It’s probably top of my worst films list. It just bombed,” Connery said.
“It had a great director, it had good actors including Karl Malden but the special effects were a bit limited.”
Somewhere, Alex Trebec is smiling.

I feel like this is the third or fourth time Sir Sean has made this 'announcement'.
And if Last Crusade was his favorite acting experience, why did he nix working in the sequel?
And although he'll always be Bond to me and therefore cool as arctic ice, I lost some respect when he turned down the role of Saruman in the LOTR because he didn't 'understand the movie' and instead went and did some shitacular bomb of a film like Avengers or LoXG. Shame on you.

Hmmm... Much as I like Connery, I think Christopher Lee was Saruman.
I haven't seen Meteor, but worse than Highlander 2? That'd be some major accomplishment.
I take it this means Pixar was able to lure him out of retirement for Cars 2.

I completely agree that Christoper Lee was a better choice. I mean, the guy has read Tolkien every year since the books came out. While on the set, he would quote shit in the original elvish language. because he had memorized it.
But the fact that Connery was like "LOTR? What's that?" just makes him a chump. The guy who did Zardoz turned his nose up at the greatest literary work of all time?
And he might still do voice stuff. He can basically phone his lines in from his toilet and get paid for it, so he might not view it as the same as 'acting" in a movie.

Zardoz was just on tv this past weekend.
I have For Your Eyes Only with Roger Moore on right now. It certainly makes you appreciate Sean Connery as Bond a bit more.

And the fact that they were gonna give Connery something like 10% of worldwide gross makes me wanna throw up.
Sweet berry wine!
