It feels liberating to not be looking for any toys

Post by anarky »

This is something rare for me. I got Smokescreen and Inferno a week or so ago. I finally found the Wild Bill/Scrap-Iron set at the same time. All the SW stuff I see is Clone Wars.

So, there's nothing I'm looking for. I still go to the toy section when I'm in Target, but I'm not making trips to look for toys.

This feels nice. Liberating. A preview of this summer, when Transformers and GIJoe will go on hiatus altogether for movie garbage. I could get used to this. I should get used to this.

Clearly toy collecting gives you absolutely nothing but grief. So this little time will be a sort of preview if you want to stop altogether (which, IMO, you should).
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

Nothing but grief? Yeesh. I only mean it's nice to be able to drive by a Target and not feel like, "Omigod! I've got to see if they have ______!!"

Well, I was referring to when you recently got livid with Hasbro for making a Clone Wars Jabba before a ROTJ one with a dais. And there's the fact that you've seemingly been trying to convince yourself to quit collecting SW for some time (like the "make these or I'll quit" list). To me, anyway, it seemed like you used to enjoy it but it's become more like a chore for you than a hobby. I could be wrong, though, as I don't really know your feelings on any other lines you collect.
Shit. I can't think of a good signature.

I know how you feel... really... I felt it, a couple years ago when I stopped collecting... :D
"Once there were brook trout in the streams in the mountains. You could see them standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming. Maps and mazes. Of a thing which could not be put back. Not be made right again. In the deep glens where they lived all things were older than man and they hummed of mystery."

My purchasing is way down again. Coupled with Hasbro's news that they'll be making fewer "collector" figures until sales stabilize, I'm perfectly content to sit back & pick up the figures that a) I can find and b) aren't EU carp. It's very liberating.

Stores never have anything anymore anyway. Just order what you want online. The money you pay in s/h you save in driving all over town repeatedly being dissappointed.

You know what's really liberating? Sneaking into JJL's house when he's online here, and he's totally mesmerized by his avatar, and then clearing your throat behind him and scaring the shit out of him.

But I digress. The experience of there being nothing for a while really made me less a completist and put this into perspective. I still think toy companies (not just Hasbro) and retailers do things stupidly, but it really doesn't bother me anymore. There's very little out there that I feel like I HAVE to have, and most of it's stuff that's easy to come by. Sure, I'd like the WM comic packs that are out now, and the GIJoe Lava Viper that may or may not be released and no one's sure, even Hasbro, and I wouldn't mind getting a Spacetrooper if I ever see one, but I'm not bent out of shape about any of it. Hell, after bitching for ages that Hasbro wouldn't re-release the Eopie, I waited until the last minute to send in my check for the mail-away based entirely on the premise that, if they have it, great, if they don't, no big deal.

Right now, Teek is about the only "holy fucking shit, I've got to have it!" thing forthcoming. I'm not worried about him. He's going to be hella expensive, but I don't foresee major problems in getting him.

Yup. He comes with Kaink, a Star Tours tech, Ree Yees w/ camera, and Chewbacca (why?!?), and will be some sort of Disney exclusive.

Is that a set, or do they all come individually?

It's good to see they use old-timey 1940's era cameras in the SW Universe.

It's a set. That's why it has to have Chewbacca. ;) And why only two of the five are new molds.

It would be absolutely perfect if Ree Yees was also smoking, but I can understand why he's not.

I hope you can customize a Wilford Brimley figure. Looks like that Star Tours Tech likes to shop at the same place as Doc Greer.

A friend from work (who is a SW fan) is taking his family to Disney World later this month...he's going to bring me back a Teek set if he sees it there. :bats:

I'm hoping they'll still have some sets when I'm down there for Celebration V, though I bet some of the thousands of other people going are thinking the same thing.
